We made these fun shirts to bring with us to Pride this weekend. We thought it was a clever way to use our brand to celebrate love and equality. This was my first Pride experience. I went into this experience with a large quantity of cool looking shirts, but I came out of with a better understanding of the question YB Straight?
How would I describe Pride? Colorful. So. Fucking. Colorful. I seriously wore my coolest multi-colored hot pants, and nobody noticed. I blended in. I was underdressed. And in so many cases, I was overdressed. I have experienced nothing in my life that looks happier than beautiful, kind, people free to be exactly who we are. Just people, all of us, simply people.
I have deep feelings about the need we all have to not only love and be loved, but also to start a family of our own. I have that need, and I have that family. We all have that need. To take away not a basic human right, but a basic human need is just so mean. And love, in all forms, is beautiful. It should not be reserved for only certain humans. Whether you believe in marriage equality or not, it's real. And now, there is no reason to be straight if you are not.
I love these shirts...we didn't sell a whole lot of shirts. I was bummed at first when I came to the realization of how many shirts there were at Pride. And buttons, and flags, and tutus. I thought maybe our shirts were being misunderstood, or maybe, out of context with our brand, wasn't really all that clever. I still think they're awesome. For me, YB Straight? Because, that's who I am. For so many YB Straight? No reason. And my favorite thing about humanity right now? The next time Kai asks me if a man can marry a man or a woman can marry a woman, I can simply say, "yes".
Happy Pride everyone, happy life.
P.S. YB Stinky? There is still no reason. Buy some soap!
