About Us
After joining the city-to-farm movement in 2012, we found our young family packing up life among the bright Las Vegas city lights, and crowded, multi-family neighborhoods and moving, instead, to the rural Wisconsin landscape under a million stars, sleeping to the sounds of owls and coyotes in the distance. We started YB Urban? as a way to connect to the plants around us, focusing on living a natural, fun life. Our extensive product lines are inspired by our homestead life, using nature as food and medicine, and putting great care into the land we've been entrusted with.
We have researched, studied, and been down many rabbit holes to find the best natural and naturally-derived ingredients to bring healthy alternatives in personal care products often laden with chemicals that are harmful to our bodies and the environment. We carefully vet our suppliers to find the ones with knowledge, integrity, and consistency. We make an effort to empower other family-owned businesses in this way, seeking out companies with owner/operators who we can build relationships based on mutual trust and care for our customers.
After years of selling our products at fairs, festivals, and in shops around our area, in 2019 we opened our downtown Ellsworth location in the heart of a forgotten neighborhood brimming with potential. This turn-of-the-century bank building could not have been more suited to our needs. Within the thick concrete walls of our laboratory kitchen, we create our small-batch formulas fresh and sell them to members of our community and beyond. In 2020, during the heart of a global pandemic, we passionately pursued our desire to do our part to reduce beauty waste and help our customers save money on containers by opening our community's first refill center. Here we offer our signature products by the ounce, saving hundreds of containers each year from ending up in landfills, and offering our loyal customers options for saving money with each return purchase.
Within 5 years of opening our location, we became a community staple, driving the redevelopment of our downtown district. People who hadn't come downtown for a decade, now visit every month. After winning the Wisconsin Mainstreet Makeover contest in 2024, we were able to renovate and update our storefront, rebranding our shop the YB Urban? Aroma Bar, a place where people can come and immerse themselves in all things aroma, participate in classes and experiences, explore custom blending, and discover their personal favorites, backed by the science of plant therapy.
The future of our community and our brand is looking as bright as those Vegas lights! Our family is committed to continuing to learn and grow with the needs of our customers while indulging in our own creativity!
