The beauty industry is a huge driver for plastic production every year, consuming almost half a million tons. An estimated 91% of that waste never gets recycled. Watching the same product go out in a different container to the same person time and time again over the years led us to identify the best ways to help with waste. In July of 2020 we expanded our Ellsworth store to include a bulk + refill center where we invite our customers to return their containers, refill a variety of products, and save money on container costs with each return visit.
How it Works
Every container we chose to package our products in is safe to wash and reuse. Our containers range in style from reusable HDPE plastic, to glass, and metal. When a container is returned, we will either refill the same container for items like cleaning supplies, or swap with a clean, sanitized container for personal care items like lotion and shampoo. Bottles can either be obtained by purchasing pre-packaged product off the retail shelf, or purchasing the container of your choice from the refill center. With each return visit, customers are charged only for product cost/ ounce, not the cost of the container. The savings really add up over time! Add to those savings loyalty card program, and with every 12 containers returned or refilled customers earn a 15% discount towards their next purchase.
